Broad Ripple Basement Metallic Floor
This project was super fun for us! Red Fox Epoxy specializes in Metallic floor coating. The client chose two colors. Great White & Dolphin Grey for her basement flooring project. The concrete was in decent shape. However, the edges were super rough and in one corner, it seemed like they had just dumped a pile of rough concrete as extra. There were small craters as well near the poles. Our crew of floor coating specialists went in and chipped away at the large pile of concrete in the corner, filled all the cracks and crevices with crack filler, and began to grind down the existing concrete floor.
The goal of grinding down concrete is two fold. First, if you’re going to install concrete floor coating, you want to make sure the concrete profile is rough enough to where the floor coating product adheres properly. Second, grinding scraps off all of the debris, oil spills, and other things that are on the surface of the concrete.
We laid down our base coat after that which was simply white. We had to watch as off-gasing occurred. This is where pressure and air from the concrete comes up through the base coat. In order to avoid future damage, we had to spray where we would see bubbles come up through the base coat. We would spray isopropyl 99% alcohol where we saw bubbles. This would ensure that bubbles don’t stay and dry. If they do, then we’d have to sand down the bubbles and fill them with polyaspartic.
The next step was the metallic coat. We installed the metallic flooring using Great White and Dolphin Grey metallic colors. In order to get the design we first poured the white coat and then poured small lines or pools of Dolphin Grey to mix in using a hand roller in a particular pattern.
The final step in our metallic flooring project was the top coat. We install a polyaspartic top coat and the client picked a satin clear finish. Polyaspartic is superior to epoxy in that it doesn’t yellow over time and it’s much more durable and long lasting.
We appreciate our Broad Ripple client so much for allowing us to install a beautiful metallic floor in her basement! Check out the project photos and let us know what you think on social media. This floor is a beautiful addition to an already beautiful home and will make the basement area such a fun place to hangout.
